Abstract

Introduction and objective: This work aims to carry out a systematic literature review evaluating the role of psychosocial support in the reception and care given to transgender people throughout their life cycle. Method: There were selected manuscripts published between 2012 and 2022 in the Virtual Health Library (VHL) and PubMed databases. It was searched the Decs/Mesh (Health Science Descriptors) for the crossing of controlled descriptors, “social support”, “psychosocial support system” and “transsexuality”. Initially, 740 articles were identified, 364 from VHL and 376 from PubMed. After removing duplicates using Mendeley software, 190 articles remained. Of these, a total of 182 articles were excluded: 114 after reading the titles, 53 after reading the abstracts (for not contemplating the objectives of this review) and 15 when other exclusion criteria were applied. In this way, there was selected 08 articles for analysis. Results: Family and psychosocial support, including civil organizations, has a great impact on reducing psychic suffering, self-mutilation and self-image acceptance. We emphasize that social groups can activate triggers of negative issues experienced in the past, such as stigma and bullying, when they are with their peers. Conclusions: the absence of psychosocial support can trigger social phenomena that directly or indirectly impact the health of the trans population in its broadest sense. The writing and publication of academic materials that address themes aimed at trans people in their most varied aspects of life should be encouraged, so that public policies can be discussed and created, in order to bring more protection and acceptance to this public.
