Abstract

Introduction: Suicide is described as a serious public health problem worldwide, occupying the second position among the most frequent causes of death in the ages between 15 and 34 years of age. Objective: to describe the profile of suicide mortality in the Extreme South of Bahia (9th Regional Health Unit - Teixeira de Freitas), from 2015 to 2018. Methods: descriptive epidemiological study, with data collected through death certificates in the 9th Regional Health Unit, through consultation with the DATASUS - SIM - Mortality Information System, selecting the basic cause of suicide (CIDs X70 to X84). Results: it was observed the occurrence of 10 deaths by suicide between the years 2015 to 2018, being 9 in the municipality of Teixeira de Freitas and 01 in Vereda. All individuals were male, in the age groups: 20-29 years 01 death, 30-39 years 04 deaths, 50-59 years 03 deaths and over 60 years 02 deaths. Conclusion: Most suicides occurred at home, which makes immediate intervention difficult. All individuals were men, and the majority used hanging. Individuals at risk of suicide need surveillance by the family and people who live with them, to identify and prevent the act. It is also necessary to improve the official records regarding the duplicity of data in the system used.
