Abstract

Introduction: Depression is a psychiatric illness that generates mood swings and emotional disorders. In adolescence, the changes that occur can influence the physical, emotional, intellectual and social dimensions of the individual and may favor the development of mental disorders such as depression. Objective: To observe the main risk factors for the development of depression in adolescents from 2011 to 2021. Methods: This was a systematic review based on the criteria of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA). The searches were carried out in the Virtual Health Library (BVS), Online System of Search and Analysis of Medical Literature (MEDLINE) and the Latin American and Caribbean Literature on Health Sciences (LILACS) databases. To carry out the study, the crossing of the DeCS terms was used: “Depression” AND “Adolescents” AND “Risk Factors” AND “Behavior”. The last search was carried out in September 2021. Results: According to the study, it was observed that among the risk factors listed, internet addiction and smoking were the ones that most triggered depression. Conclusion: Personalized prevention of the pathology is important to minimize the damage caused in the lives of adolescents. Therefore, it is necessary to expand the studies on the subject.
